Variety and Scenery in Northern West Virginia
The Tygart River is one of the most recent to be added to the list of commercially rafted waterways in West Virginia. Many of the outfitters who also run the nearby Cheat River also handle trips on the Tygart.
The best time to raft the Tygart is in the spring, when early-year rains boost a number of its rapids up into the Class III category, but water sports of all kinds are available year-round. In addition to rafting, one of the most popular trips on the Tygart is in "duckies," highly stable single-person craft that are popular with young and old alike. Kids, in particular, enjoy being the "captain of their own ship!"
The Tygart offers lovely scenery, several scenic waterfalls and easy access in northern West Virginia. It also offers more than a few wet surprises to veteran river-runners, especially when it's running at top levels!
